Kogi Assembly approves the recruitment 1,050 Hired Hunters to bolster security

In a proactive move to strengthen its security framework, the Kogi State House of Assembly has approved the recruitment of 1,050 hunters to aid in safeguarding the state. This decision comes amidst growing concerns over the region’s security challenges and a shortage of manpower.

The approval was granted during a plenary session on Wednesday in Lokoja, the state capital. A letter requesting the recruitment of 50 hunters per the 21 local government areas of Kogi State was sent to the House by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Salami Ozigi Deedat.

Addressing the Assembly, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, noted that the lawmakers had previously resolved that, given the pressing security issues in the state, the recruitment of additional personnel was necessary.

In a unanimous voice vote, the legislators approved the proposal to onboard the 1,050 hunters. The salaries of these newly recruited security personnel will be covered by the Caretaker Chairmen of the respective local government areas.

This strategic move by the Kogi State government is expected to bolster the state’s security capabilities and provide much-needed reinforcement to address the evolving security landscape. By tapping into the expertise of local hunters, the state aims to enhance its overall defense against threats and ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
