#EndBadGovernance: Sowore Speaks on Postponement of Nationwide Protest

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has debunked claims of the postponement of the planned ‘End Bad Governance’ protest.

He stated that there was no truth to the viral news.

 understands that on Wednesday night July 31, a statement purportedly signed by Damilare Adenola, the director of mobilisation of Take It Back Movement, was circulated on WhatsApp.

The circular said that “due to prevailing security threat conditions”, the organisers “made the difficult decision” to postpone the protest against hardship to October 1.

But reacting via his verified X handle, Sowore quashed the statement and said it was “issued by the Bola Tinubu regime officials and despicable security agencies in Abuja in a desperate attempt to demoralise Nigerians”.

He asserted that the “historic” #EndBadGovernace protest will start unfailingly on August 1.

He wrote, “PLEASE A FAKE STATEMENT IN CIRCULATION CLAIMING TO BE FROM “DAMILARE ADENOLA” WAS ISSUED BY THE @officialABAT REGIME OFFICIALS AND DESPICABLE SECURITY AGENCIES IN ABUJA IN A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO DEMOBILIZE NIGERIANS. PLEASE NOTE, THE HISTORIC #EndBadGovernace #DaysOfRage REVOLT”

Protesters Will Be Supported With Sweets And Sachet Water – Edo Police Commissioner

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has promised to support and protect the citizens during the planned protests, as long as they are conducted peacefully.

The announcement was made by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, during a press briefing on Wednesday evening

He emphasized the right of citizens to protest, stating, “Police will protect and support them with sachet water and sweets. We have agreed that they will only occupy Kings Square, which is the venue of the protest.”

He also issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers, making it clear that any attempts to disrupt the peaceful demonstration would be met with decisive action.
